Change is a Good Thing
Some people might disagree with the title of this post. Some people don’t like change. They may think it will only bring negative things into their lives.
I think change gets a bad rap.
Sure there are times a big change has made me worry about how things would turn out. The anticipation of it is always worse than actually dealing with change when it comes. My mind will race to every possible scenario, good and bad, until the time I have to jump in with both feet and sink or swim. However, that doesn’t mean the result wasn’t a good one.
For instance, I just made one of the biggest changes of my life thus far. I switched jobs to further my career. I went from a position related to my degree with few responsibilities to one with tons. I must admit it was mildly terrifying, but that never made me question whether the change I put in motion wasn’t exactly what I needed. And, oh, how I needed it. Now, I am happy and engaged with my work. My days go quickly and they’re interesting.
It can be scary to make a change in our lives or to accept one that has been thrust upon us, though. There’s no denying that. Change brings with it a certain amount of uncertainty that can and does make people nervous. Again, that doesn’t mean that change can’t be or isn’t for the better. Sometimes all we need is a bit of change: in our attitude, in our relationship status, in our work, or in our environment.
Change keeps us from being stagnant. It propels us forward and moves us toward something positive, something better: a good frame of mind, getting into a healthy relationship or out of a toxic one, a more fulfilling job, or a better environment. It can make all the difference in our happiness, success, and fulfillment with our lives.
So next time you see a change, big or small, coming your way don’t worry or be afraid – embrace it. It may just be the best thing that’s happened to you yet.
